our story

History of the Federation and the Swiss National Day celebration

The Federation was founded in 1965 to look after the common, cultural interests of the Swiss community in Eastern Canada. Its Members and affiliated members are Swiss clubs and Swiss organisations. The outstanding success of the celebration of the Swiss National Day during the Olympic year of 1976 in the Chalet on Mont Royal led to the desire to have a more permanent venue to celebrate Switzerland’s birthday. A group of Swiss decided on Mount Sutton as the site that most closely met its selection criteria. Such, the first celebration of the Swiss National Day on Mount Sutton took place in 1977 and we have returned every year since. We are very thankful to our hosts, the owners of the Ski Resort Mount Sutton, for their trust in us and in particular for allowing us the use of the entire Mountain for this event.
